  • Shielded S A-RB® stainless steel bearings
  • Fluiddrive® II

  • Super Stopper® II instant anti-reverse

By building in the advanced Propulsion Line Management System, Shimano has upped the performance level of one of their most popular reels. The 5-part system greatly reduces friction and line slap, ensuring longer casts and smoother retrieves. Meanwhile, the Sahara retains all the great features that have made it such a solid performer: exclusive S Concept technology, lightweight graphite sideplate and rotor, cold forged aluminum spool, Fluidrive® II, Floating Shaft, Dyna-Balance® system, Super Stopper II instant anti-reverse, Slow Oscillation, powerful machined aluminum handle, and a maintenance port for quick lube touchups. Equipped with 3 shielded S A-RB® stainless steel ball bearings and a roller bearing.

Propulsion® Line Mangement System: Five key components (spool lip, bail wire, roller, bail trip and cam) have been completely redesigned to reduce friction and promote uniformity of line movement. The result: more distance, less friction, fewer backlashes and wind knots, and greatly reduced line twist.

Super Stopper II is Shimano’s exclusive instant anti-reverse system. Built with a one-way roller bearing that eliminates all back-play in the handle—for instant hooksetting power.

Power Roller: Part of the Propulsion Line Management System, Power Roller III reduces line twist by as much as 50%. Special grooved design assures that the line will wrap evenly on the spool.

Dyna-Balance® eliminates wobble on the retrieve by counter-balancing the rotor to enhance sensitivity and smoothness. 100% computer balanced!

Fluidrive® gearing means that your reel was manufactured with the highest tolerances and utmost control in the gear-cutting process, to ensure a smooth, powerful retrieve every time.

Shimano S-Concept features ensure that your spinning reel will perform beyond expectations. Features vary by reel model, but may include a specially designed rotor, guard, roller clutch, and/or arm cam.

Line recovery in inches per handle turn.

I'm looking for a fast-retrieve reel that can handle light lines. What's the minimum recommended line weight for the 2500? Anyone have experience along these lines?

What is your opinion of these two sizes for trout and small reds? My 7 foot rod is light tackle. Not ultra light but might as well be when it comes to saltwater. My main concern is retrieve speed. The 1000 is standard retrieve and the 2500 would be considered a fast retrieve. I think I'd prefer the 1000 but it might be too small regarding pound test. Please let me know what you think -

The 1000 series is great for trout, but you would probably be better off with the larger capacity spool and faster retrieve on the 2500 series for fishing reds.

A:
Spinning reels typically have fewer ball bearings than baitcasters, while still being as smooth. This reel, although it has only 4 ball bearings, is a smooth reel.

probably only has 3 or 4 at most...but honestly don't buy this reel. I've had bail failures on both of the ones that I have had and ended up switching to the saros which is a lot better product.

how smooth is the retrieve?

Details:
is this reels retrieve even comparable to the pfleuger presidential?

A:
My experience with two of these reels is that the retrieve will begin to bind or stick on the retrieve within a couple months use. I fish several times a months so some may not notice the condition for some time depending on usage. It is a very annoying condition to fish with.

Better! I have owned both for 2 or 3 years and use them frequently. The pfleuger presidential (I have the 6730 model) puts a lot more twists in my line and consequentially more time spent untangling birdnests.

Talked to a guy who works on reels, Says pflueger makes there reels to be used then thrown away, not fixed. If you want a shimano buy the Sedona for fresh water. No spare spool with most of low end shimano.

There isnt a spare spool with this reel. I have had the xt as well and both are great reels. I have to say that the xt is a little smoother but the sahara is more fit for saltwater.

I got one of mine on a BPS Carbonlite and really like it, got them as a pair from BPS and saved $20. My next choice would be a BPS Johnny Morris black (the one with the cork handle).

For rods in the $100 range the BPS Extreme is a good option. For rods in the $150 range the Dobyns Savvy is a great option. For rods in the $200 range the St. Croix Avid is a great option.

Myself and a couple of guys I know with these reels use them mostly with G.Loomis rods. That would be my pick. Shimano / Abu have some decent ones... but for my money I'm a Loomis guy.

The 2500 and the 3000 are the exact same reel ( part # to part # ) except the spool. Buy one then go to a good tackle shop and buy the other reel for like $5 and be set.

There is probably a flat spot in your bearings causing this...probably time to change the bearings or get a new reel.

Mine does the same thing. The only thing that works for a little while it to turn the reel so the spool faces the ground and put oil in the seam around the bail assembly (The part that spins when you crank). Works for a while. Maybe two hard days of fishing and I have to do it again.
